Rockin' October

Tonight, while doing this blog, Hurricane Matthew is barreling down on the East Coast of Florida - we pray for all the people  on the other coast, to keep safe, and we pray and think of our friends and fellow nurserymen over there that are facing this battle. Please keep them in your thoughts that our beloved state does not get too battered.

Here on the west coast of Florida, we are only expected to get some tropical storm winds and gusts, so we also pray for all our family, friends, and customers, to stay safe too.

Yes, we battened the hatches here too - basic stuff like taking down tents, taking down beloved glass art hanging in the gardens and moving plants to areas that hopefully won't get too wind battered from 30-40 mph gusts expected maybe here. We will be up all night monitoring things.

Interestingly, once this Hurricane business gets out of the way, it is suppose to be a gorgeous weekend here in St. Pete and we are looking forward to participating in super events both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, of course, is Saturday Morning Market Day, downtown St. Pete.  Last weekend, we started our 15th season there.  The guys handled the market while Susan and I were manning our booth down in rainy Sarasota - both events were terrific and many happy customers went home with goody plants.

One of our most popular offerings here in the new season, is the Abutilon Hibiscus tree. It is grown in a 3 gallon plant as a standard, aka, upright small tree. It blooms most of the year and truly is a great specimen for hibiscus lovers !

We are starting the market season with a bang, with Herbs, fresh new mini succulents, other great Hibiscus, such as the Double White and the colorful Tri-color "Cosmic Dancer"

The Fall season is a great time to get in Passion Flower Vines for your butterfly gardens, and we have Lady Margaret, Purple Possem and Alata Cerulla.

We are also celebrating the season and fooling around with some cool things to do with Succulents and Pumpkins !

On Sunday, we are proud to be a participant with the Keep St. Pete Local and Indy market, as the downtown around Williams Park and abutting areas will be alive with Food Trucks, Vendors, Local non-profits and much more, as they create a strolling wonderland to celebrate our great downtown.

We will be set up on the south end of Williams Park, near the intersection of 1st avenue north and 3rd street, not too far from the fountain - come on down and visit us, and check out all the other happenings - it's going to be great fun for one and all...bring family, friends, pets, kids and be ready to enjoy some glorious weather !

Next weekend, Oct. 15/16, we will be away from market for the annual Octoberfest Fall Plant and Garden show at Bok Tower, in Lake Wales, FL - check back to the blog on Monday to read more about that.
