June Happenings

Can't believe that we are already heading to the end of the month of June and with all the rain we have been getting, plants and gardens are very happy these days.  The Saturday Morning Summer Market down at Williams Park is humming right along with more vendors joining us after their breaks, each week.  Brady of Mr. I Gottem is doing a great job of bringing more and more great Produce in for customers and we have heard many positive comments from customers about the relaxed atmosphere of Summer Market, not to mention, being located under shady trees throughout the park is an added plus for comfort for everyone.

The City of St. Pete has worked hard this past year to really spruce up Williams Park..the grass is lush and green, there is new mulch down around tree and plant beds and it's like our little Garden of Eden right in the middle of downtown, during Market time.

This weekend, there will be added incentive to visit downtown as the St. Pete Art movement is having a special one day show around Central avenue and 2nd street, just 1 block from the Market.  We have heard there will be over 60 artists displaying their wares around the area and we hope everyone will come out to support the St. Pete Artisans.  Parking these days downtown is much easier and there is still a lot to do in the area. Even with the Pier being closed and Baywalk being reconstructed, the amount of shops and restaurants are thriving, many with outdoor dining tables. It's great to see so many people out and about day and night enjoying our beautiful downtown.

This Saturday at market, we have some new things happening in the Mitch Armstrong Nursery booth....we will have a new, gorgeous selection of Tillandsias (Air plants). Air plants are one of the simplest plants to grow, EZ and low maintenance to care for and you can enjoy them inside and out.  We also have some of the most gorgeous large Elephant Ear plants..these will take morning sun, as well as shade, and we will be bringing our popular Chiquita Banana plants, which are ready for purchase.  Along with our other exotic tropicals, we continue to have a great selection of Butterfly friendly specimens, Hanging baskets, Succulent container gardens, Passion Vines, and much more. One of the most special things we have right now is called "Lady of the night" and she is an evening, aromatic white bloomer...the blooms remind you of Mandavilla. They are all blooming right now and we are enjoying the sweet scent every evening.

You might notice around town that the Large Leaf Tibouchina is starting to bloom. The long, violet/blue blooms are a real showstopper.

Our Availability List we posted last week is still valid and many customers are taking advantage of reserving their plant purchases from it, to pick up at market, or at our place, on appointment, so be sure to check back on that every week.

All for now, hope you can get to downtown St. Pete on Saturday, get your Market goodies and enjoy St. Pete Artisans on Central.  Market hours are 9am -1 pm.  See you there !
