Mitch Armstrong Nursery Fall 2012 Events

Now, that's some Birdhouse !!  Standing over 3 feet tall, this is an amazing creation from Aunt Mary !

Well, we are catching up on things and heading into the 2012/2013 Market and Plant Show season, so here's some heads up on what's happening around our Farm : This year, we are growing more and more of our own plant stock and have been busy over the summer clearing out more nursery property land.  Although we are still not at the point of having a retail nursery to visit, you can find us at area Markets and special Plant Shows.  We are counting the days until we get back in the swing and here is what is coming up this Fall!

Our Main Event !
Saturday Morning Market, downtown St. Pete (www.saturdaymorningmarket.com) opens for it's 10th season Sat. October 6th.  We will be back at the parking lot of Al Lang Field and look for us on the 6th row (closest to the Bay side).  Market hours are 9am - 2pm, every Saturday.  Our goal is to always have a set-up at Market even when we have other shows at the same time and if we can't be there, we try and keep everyone updated by our blogspot.

Special Events in the Fall where we also will be!

Annual Fall Plant Show at Tropiflora Nursery, Sarasota, FL (www.tropiflora.com) is Friday/Saturday/Sunday, Oct. 5 through the 7th.  Tropiflora welcomes you to come down to find some great deals at their own nursery, plus they kindly let about 20 fellow small plant nurseries to set up too, so it's a great way to get a start on your Fall planting season.  Each vendor has a specialty, and you will find many rare and unusual specimens.  Live music, food and drinks, plant carts and plenty of free parking are for your convenience.  Our tip? Wear a hat ! --it can be pretty sunny and hot still this time of year.  You will find us at the rear of the property under the gorgeous shady Oaks and Bamboo. It's a great one-tank day trip, just about an hour straight down the interstate to Sarasota and then about 15 minutes west. Look for info and directions on their website.

Bok Tower Octoberfest, Lake Wales, FL (Boktowersgarden.org) is Saturday, October 20th. This 4th annual plant sale has become bigger and more popular every year.  The celebration includes FREE admission to Bok Tower Gardens, a Biergarten, live entertainment, Flood and of course, some of the best Plant vendors from around the state of Florida.  Another great one-tank trip, and getting free admission is huge since it usually cost $18 to get in.  Our tip? Get there early as you can - there is plenty of free parking.  Bring your carts, but there usually are carts available through the Boy Scout volunteers.

18th Annual Mt. Dora Garden and Plant Sale, Mt. Dora, FL (www.mountdoraplantandgardenfair.org), is Sat and Sunday, Nov. 3rd and 4th.  One of our favorite shows to do as the setting is gorgeous around the lake.  Again, another great one-tank trip if you get an early start, or check out some of the local B&B's and cottages and make a weekend of it.  The Plant event is a good one with a lot of variety in vendors and the town itself is a charming one to walk around.  Our tip? parking near the lake/event can be challenging but they usually have a trolley, and if you take the time to drive around, you can find parking on side streets where it is permitted.  They also let you drive up right up the Event main drag to pick up your purchases.

Florida Botanical Gardens, Largo, FL, Sunday, Dec. 9th (www.flbg.org).  This is a special one-day Plant Sale that takes place in the middle of their regular Holiday Light Extravaganza Happenings in December.   The plant sale will be located just outside the regular entrance to the main Garden and has become a popular event to get great Plant specimens and last minute Holiday gifts.  Check out their website for more details about this event plus the spectacular Light Show they put on in the evenings.  Arts and Crafts are also set up, with FREE admission (donations welcomed), free parking, Food and entertainment.  Our tip?  Come for the plant sale during the day and either stay, or come back during the Holiday Light event..get there about an hour before dark so you can truly appreciate the gardens and the blooming plants, then enjoy the Light show as darkness falls.  Great event for All ages !

Lastly, we are in the process of selecting other area Markets to set up at, so stay tuned for those details.

We look forward to seeing everyone and thank you again for supporting Small Business in the Tampa Bay area.
