One of our new favorites is commonly called "Tiger Jaw" (Fuucaria felina) and it's another beauty from the land of Africa.
This pic, from the World of Succulents, shows multi stems flourishing. The leaves are spiny looking, but are NOT harmful or ouchie to touch! It is amazing how this teeny little plant can produce a bloom that is actually larger than it's base. It is a Fall/Winter bloomer, and the blooms open in the afternoon and close at night. It really loves being on the dry side in Winter, so don't over water it !
Researching it on the internet, many sites claim that it needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight to bloom, but that is not our experience -when grown in a bright, shady area, it blooms its heart out. Not being cold tolerant, this is a perfect specimen for you sunny windowsill of your home or office.
This coming weekend, on Saturday, January 14th, we have 2 events we are covering. And we are very happy about impending gorgeous weather, especially after last weekends cold, windy and rainy day.
Mitch and the crew will be at our home base at Saturday Morning Market, downtown St. Pete., and Annie will be at the Pierce Street Market, which is located on the intercoastal waterway under the big bridge that scans to Clearwater Beach. Both markets provide 100 plus vendors with great food, plants and artisans.
note: Market hours for Sat. Morning Market, downtown St. Pete are 9am-2pm
Market hours for Pierce Street Market is 10am-3pm.
Special about Pierce Street Market - Annie's display will be bringing a huge fresh assortment of Mini Succulent, Cacti, and Mini Tropicals (the tropicals are perfect for Terrariums), hardy perennial geraniums and Beach loving exotic shells that are great for decorating or providing a planting place for your Mini Plants. And don't forget our gorgeous hand-made large Oyster Shell tapestries for home and patios.
At Downtown St. Pete Market we will have hundreds of fresh new Mini Succulents, Cacti, Mini Tropical, as well as gorgeous bigger Tropicals for shade gardens and home, as well, as cold hardy perennials and landscaping specimens.
So, come on out for markets - enjoy the fact that 99% of the rest of the country is knee deep in cold weather, ice and snow - this really IS the best part of the year for enjoying our precious home of Florida, USA !
