September is like our "hump" month of the year..it falls between our regular Fall/Spring/Summer season until the engines start roaring, and October starts us anew, with new Market season, great botanical plant shows and lots of holidays.
So, what's a plant man to do in September? Well, breathe, relax, sleep in on Saturdays maybe..or breathe, kick up our heels, start planning for Fall, keep getting up early and think of special things we can do this month!
We have 2 non-market events happening this month, both on Saturday, Sept. 12th:
The first is the semi-annual yard sale/plant sale/anything to sell at Crescent Lake Park, here off of 22nd avenue north, between 5th and 7th street north, in St. Pete. This semi yearly event supports the St. Pete TASCO program which supports our area teenagers all year long. Its ton of fun and lots to do and see. They let about a hundred of us set up booths all along the perimeter of the park from 9am to 1pm. You will find anything and everything that local residents set up to sell..it's like a mini pop-up flea market but with items ranging from cheep cheep to great values. They also have a BBQ cook off, tons of kids play things to bounce on, music and just all around community fun.
Note: They let many people start setting up for the event on Friday evening, the 11th from 5pm on, so if you are in the area, check it out. The "yard sale" thing officially goes from 9am to 1pm but people are out early by 8, and the fun in the park keeps going till 3pm. Armstrong Nursery will be set up at the north end of the park, right at the beginning of vendor row. Look for our banner as you drive by, lots of parking in nearby neighborhoods.
The second event we are participating in, is the 50th Anniversary of USF with a huge block party at the USF campus on 5th avenue south, St. Pete. Saturday Morning market vendors, Music, tons of stuff happening, this WILL be a really fun party and event to come to. The event happens Sat. Sept. 12th from 9am-4pm.
This weekend, Annie will be at the "new" Old Southeast Market , located at 1700 3rd street south. Annie will be there to continue to put in landscaping as well as having plants to sell, and we have HERBS ! If you have not seen our previous post, this little community market place, just south of Thrill Hill, it has been renovated from very old run-down Mini Mart into a brand spanking new neighborhood market place !
Can you believe the difference ?! The new owners, Tim and Jim have done an unbelievable job of renovating this place and their goal is to be able to serve downtown, Old SE and Southside St. Pete residents with a place to get great wine, craft beer, Deli, produce, pastries, Dairy and much much more.
They are still in their "soft opening" phase and adding new product every week. You will find great product from local producers as Jim and Tim believe in investing in Local to serve Locals !
They also plan to have an outside patio for eating, drinking and live music. The hours are 8am-8pm every day so stop on in if you are driving by, meet Jim and Tim and support this great Local effort.
"The Plant Lady is In The House"
Annie will continue to put is colorful plants to spruce up the front and Armstrong nursery plans to have a presence for selling plants at the market in the months to come.
Anytime Annie is there to work on the landscaping on and off throughout the weeks, she will bring extra plants to sell, so if you see her working out there, stop on by and see what she's got to sell !
This Saturday, Sept. 5th, Annie will be working on the landscaping and will be bring a bigger assortment of plants, including HERBS, Passion Vines and assorted Tropical plant goodies for you to check out and buy. If Annie can get Mitch away from his busy duties, he will be there too, to give great plantman advice and help you with your garden ideas.
Drop on by and say hiya to Annie, check it out, meet the owners and staff, get some goodies and spread the word to your neighbors and friends about this wonderful new community market place!
(for more about the market place, check out their facebook at Old Southeast Market, St. Pete Fl.)
