This past Sunday, we also had some great newspaper coverage with the Tampa Bay Times. Penny Carnathan, who writes the "Diggin Florida Dirt" column, that runs in the Home section, wrote a wonderful, funny and informative article about Passion Vines, highlighting many of the ones we have to offer for our customers. The Purple possem (passiflora edulis) continues to be very popular with everyone, producing a gorgeous flower and a yummy edible fruit.
Penny talks a lot about growing vines in general...for many people, they can get discouraged with growing vines that may get too aggressive for them. As we talked with Penny, vines are not for the gardener who does not pay attention ! Meaning, yes, they grow, and wind their way around fences and trees etc, but proper selection of the type of vine you want, the place you put it, and being able to pay attention to them at least once a month, you can have a happy experience with them !

At the Winter Garden show, we especially enjoyed the talent of the Chalk Art competition...the artists drew inspiration from a 8 x 10 photo or drawing and "chalked it up" to a 3 x 4 foot size..pretty amazing !
This one at right won Best in Show !
I am glad we were able to get some pictures, as Saturday Night at the show brought heavy rains, and alas, all the chalk art went "poof" !
This coming weekend, we are back to our home base at Saturday Morning Market, downtown St. Pete, and, make a note in your calendars now, because the biggest and the best show is coming up - yes, it's the annual Green Thumb Festival, the weekend of April 25 & 26 right here in our home town of St. Petersburg.
Check out the city website for info about the festival, vendor listing, parking maps, plant show and educational activities galore at beautiful Walter Fuller Park.
