Last Saturday, was the first day of the Saturday Morning Summer Market, at Williams Park and it turned out to be a lovely day
The park was clean, freshened and inviting when vendors started showing up at 6:30 am to set up. We can't tell you how many people exclaimed about the tree-lined atmosphere, cool breezes and vendor/public community feeling that reminded us of early days of the market.
Huge relief to be off the hot asphalt and we had a great shady spot up at the Northeast end of the park, close to 3rd street north, and one of the best things, we were set right across from Brady Johnson of Mr. I Got'm and his crew, so we got our fill of yummy pulled pork and Brady kindly gave some of his fantastic Collard Greens to take Mitch's grandson's grad party (thanks Brady, they were a big hit, of course!). Brady also brought plenty of plastic tables and chairs to set up dining areas under the oaks for the customers.
Summer market is starting this year with a great variety of vendors (50 plus), not too big, not too small, and it was a mellow day under the Oaks. The market hours are 9am to 1pm (an earlier stop time because of summer heat) but there was still many customers streaming in and hanging out well into 2pm.
We had a steady stream of plant lovers into our booth and the Tibouchinas, Almond Bush, fresh cut herbs, Tilansias, Butterfly friendly perennials were all big hits. As usual, met a lot of new faces that had never of the market and were first timers, and they loved the atmosphere. Since Williams Park is also a big City Bus depot, there was lots of riders scooping up good Eats, Crafts and our Plants in between their Bus transfer times ! Also, thanks to the many loyal Armstrong Nursery followers that always show up to support us (thanks Stanley!)
Saturday was also Mitch's Grandson, Kevin, high school graduation day. Many of you know Kevin as he has been helping with our Market booth for sometime now and his help has been invaluable. Here is a pic of Mitch's daughter, Jennifer, with her proud Graduate Son !
Again, here are the details for the Summer Market
Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park (1st avenue north between 3rd and 4th streets)
Market hours 9am-1pm
Note! There is parking all around the park (especially check out the City parking lot at 2nd avenue north and 5th street--it's free!)
There is ample space on the Northeast corner of the park for you to drive in and quickly pick up plant and other large purchases !
See ya at Market !
