Just a quick drop-in note to the Blog, we will be at the Hyde Park Sunday Market near downtown Tampa tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 1st. The Market hours are 10am-3pm. The Market takes place around the beautiful Round-about in central Hyde park, with over 100 vendors. Hope you can drop and see us. We will be doing this Market occasionally this coming season and the Hyde Park Market is always the very first Sunday of every month.
Also, wanted to let you know that Mitch brought up some great things from the nursery for our Plant Sale this weekend and next, plus we will taking them to Market. A couple of the plants are very special, the Big Leaf Tibouchina heteramalla, in 2 gallon pots and they are blooming their hearts out !
The gorgeous yellow/orange Lipstick Hanging Baskets !
And will still have some of the unique Christia obcordata (Butterfly or Swallowtail wing)

Plant Sale News Aug. 29th 2013
Hello all, and thanks for continuing to follow our blog and news of Mitch Armstrong Nursery. The Saturday morning Summer Market at Williams Park here in St. Pete, came to an end last weekend and we are very grateful for the turnout and support to us and all our fellow vendors over the summer months.
The 12th Season of the Regular big Saturday Morning Market, will reopen on Sat. Oct. 5th, back at Al Lang Field parking lot in downtown St. Pete.
In the meantime, we are holding Plant Sales at our house, this weekend, and next (spreading it out over 2 weekends at we know there is a lot going on here in town, plus it will give Mitch time to bring more plants up from the nursery). See details below !
We have lots of good bargains, and good stock that needs to go to good homes, so we can make room for our inventory for the Fall season.
Passion Vines are blooming gloriously around here and right now, in stock, we have Lady Margaret (the Burgundy colored flower, which is a butterfly host and nectar plant); Alata Ceruella (purple/blue/white colored flower which is butterfly host, nectar and feeder plant); Quadrangularis (large leaf/stem with purple/red/white flower which is butterfly friendly as well as fruit bearing); Purple Possum (frilly purple/white flower and our most popular fruit bearing passion fruiting vine).
We have some other great Butterfly friendly specimens, such as the Popcorn Cassia, Chaya (white flowering Jatropha that has edible leaves) and Giant Milkweed (lavender flower).
Also in stock, is one of our most popular plant specimens, Egyptian Papyrus. In 3 gallons, they average around 5 to 6 ft tall now.
Shade plant right now, we have some great stuff; Sunset Philodendron, Lemon-Lime Philodendron, N'Joy pathos, Giant Elephant Ears, Spearhead Alocasia and more.
And, lots of other misc. plants that need good homes!
Here are the details on the plant sale:
Place: 1331 39th Avenue North, St. Pete 33703 (corner of 14th street and 39th avenue north)
When:
Friday, Aug. 30th 10am-6pm
Sat. August 31st, 10 am - 6pm
Friday, Sept. 6th, 10am=6pm
Sat. Sept. 7th 10am-6pm
Need to come earlier, or late than these times? No problem, email or call us and we will try and accommodate your schedule ! Remember too, for the next month until regular market begins, we are always available during the week, by appointment.
Stay tuned next week as we gear up for our Fall season and will give you great news about the Market and our Fall Plant Shows.
We hope you can come on by this weekend or next, stop for a chat, tour the garden, find some great plants, and have a cold Lemonaide !

August 1, 2013 Market & Plant Availability
Whew, this summer is just flying along and here it is August 1st already. This past week we got Mitch's hurtin' tooth under control, dealt with dead batteries and the A/C going out on the red truck and through the magic of money, friends and time, things have settled down, at least for now (knocking on wood).
We only have 4 weeks left of Saturday Morning Summer Market at Williams Park, and as always, this time of year, we start running sales on special plant items that are looking for a good home, so we can make room for our Fall crops. So check out the Availability list and see some good bargains ! As always, you can see us at Market every Saturday and we are available by appointment, so we can work around your busy lives too ! The Availability list is at the bottom, after all these cool pics....
These are some of the largest Staghorn Ferns we have ever had.....they are in a 12 inch hanging basket, all ready to hang under your beautiful shade trees or shady porch.
Our Egyptian Papyrus continues to be very popular. We have them in 3 gallon pots, and they stand about 6 ft tall and will grow a bit taller. Loving water, they can actually sit in water, such as a pond, or boggy area, or many of our customers are putting them in containers with a good water pan underneath.
These are non-invasive, and grow by the original clump continuing to put up new shoots. Salt tolerant too !
You won't find these Madagascar Palms of this size for our price, anywhere ! Known for its great sun and heat tolerance, they are slow growers but can reach 8 ft. plus and put out a gorgeous white aromatic bloom.
The Chaya tree, commonly called a White Jatropha, or Spinach tree. Great Butterfly/bee garden plant.
The leaves look much like a papaya leaf. It is edible after you boil the seeds. There are quite a few recipes online about it. We have seen reference to it's sticky leaf nature but we have never had a problem with it.
We call this "Sunset" Philodendron, even though it commonly goes by "Autumn". It has spectacular large leaves in yellow and gold and red. Goes great in a shady area in the garden and also makes a great potted plant.
One of Annie's favorite plants, the large soft leaves of the Tibouchina heteromalla is starting to bloom everywhere now. Long lasting blooms, this striking plant keeps blooming well through Fall.
Here's the Availability list..check it out and email us if you see something you can't live without....you can pick it up at Market or make an appointment to get with us in St. Pete.
